Elden Ring: Where To Find The Coded Sword?

Date:

Coded Sword is a Straight Sword in Elden Ring. It is found in Leyndell, Royal Capital, nearly at the end of the game. It is known for its powerful thrusting moveset and unique weapon skill – Unblockable Blade.

In this guide, I will show you the easiest way to get the Coded Sword in Elden Ring. I will also tell you a few details you should remember before and after you get the Coded Sword.

Coded Sword Location in Elden Ring

Coded Sword is a late-game weapon. So, you won’t find it early in the game. You will have to make significant progress in the storyline. This also includes unlocking the Altus Plateau by lifting the medallion at the Grand Lift of Dectus.

In Altus Plateau, you will find Coded Sword in Leyndell, Royal Capital. You can reach Coded Sword via two Sites of Grace: Fortified Manor, First Floor is the closest, but it is easier to reach Coded Sword via West Rampart Capital Site of Grace.

The Coded Sword is located in a locked room inside a place that looks similar to Roundtable Hold or, more precisely, an abandoned Roundtable Hold.

However, here’s an important detail. You must acquire Coded Sword BEFORE you defeat Maliketh, the Black Blade, in Crumbling Farum Azula.

Yes, you can miss the Coded Sword if you don’t acquire it before killing Maliketh.

After you defeat Maliketh, the Black Blade (the second phase of Beast Clergyman), a cutscene will play, and you will see Lenydell, Royal Capital burn down as the Rune of Death will be unbound.

Now, it is no longer Leyndell, Royal Capital. It has turned into Leyndell, Ashen Capital. The place has its own enemies, bosses, and weapons, but the Coded Sword will be gone with the burning down of Leyndell, Royal Capital.

How to Get the Coded Sword in Elden Ring?

Getting Coded Sword is really easy. You don’t have to fight any bosses or enemies. You just have to navigate from the West Capital Rampart Site of Grace.

Just rest at the West Rampart Capital and head out into the open. Here, you have two options: take the stairs to descend one floor and get to the open ground, or jump from the roof to reach the ground.

Since the jump was safe, I decided to jump down and head west to this lowly rooftop. Also, there might be a few rabid dogs here, so kill or avoid them, your choice.

Jump on the rooftops and head to the entrance you see in front of you. This entrance will take you inside the Fortified Manor.

Inside the Manor, head to the western gate, and you will see a dungeon.

On your right, you will see another entrance. Enter the room, and you can farm the items in there.

As I mentioned, this place looks very similar to Roundtable Hold. Although it’s abandoned now, maybe it was the old Roundtable Hold before the Shattering.

On the table, you will find a Rune Arc. So, be sure to collect that.

On the western side, you will see a locked door. Stand near the door and open it. The place is quite dark, so I recommend you carry a torch with you. If you don’t have it, buy a torch from Merchant Kale.

As you head straight, you will get the Coded Sword.

Coded Sword Stats

Coded Sword is a unique Straight Sword simply for its Unblockable Blade weapon skill. As it sounds, the weapon skill is unblockable and can harm any enemy or a boss.

Coded Sword deals Holy damage and scales exclusively with Faith. So, it is a great weapon for Faith-based builds. It requires 20 Faith to wield it for the first time, but after 50 Faith points, I didn’t notice much difference in the Holy damage.

The Coded Sword is the lightest Straight Sword (2.5) in the Elden Ring and the second longest after Noble Slender. It has a Faith scaling of B.

You cannot infuse Coded Sword with Ashes of War or buff it with Consumables or Magic. It’s weapon skill is unchangeable.

Straight Swords are known for their lightweight, which enables quicker attacks, unlike the Greatswords in Elden Ring, which weigh heavy and have a longer windup animation.

Coded Sword Uses

As per the description of the, it was once granted to the Tarnished of the Roundtable Hold by the Two Fingers. It was, and still is, popular for its devastating Holy damage that no shield can repel.

The Coded Sword has 0 Dexterity and Strength requirements, making it a perfect weapon for pure Faith-casters.

Coded Sword’s weapon skill, Unblockable Blade, imbues the cipher blade with light and extends its length. Then, you strike your enemies with a sudden, sweeping attack. And as it says, the attack is unblockable.

You can kill multiple enemies with one hit. Here, I killed four Godrick Soldiers in one strike; the fifth one was too far!

The weapon skill will cost you 18 FP. It is lower than the older versions of the Elden Ring, which cost 25 FP for each use.

You can pair Coded Sword with Erdtree Seal for powerful incantations. Both items require Faith, making them extremely compatible and powerful when used together.

Make sure to use Sacred Scorpion Seal for increased damage and Holy-Shrounding Cracked to increase your damage even more. The Holy damage of all these items combines into one powerful attack.

Final Thoughts

The Coded Sword is a great Straight Sword that can go with any armor, not just Faith-based builds. However, due to its exclusive Faith-scaling, pure incantation casters will greatly benefit from this sword.

As I said, get this sword before you kill Maliketh, the Black Blade. Otherwise, you will lose the chance to use this awesome weapon.

Since you are in the Altus Plateau, I recommend you head north to discover another secret location called the Consecrated Fields. This will lead you to Miquella’s Haligtree.
There, you will find Malenia, the Blade of Miquella, one of the toughest bosses in Elden Ring.
