These Godslayer Incantations help you conjure black flames that you can use in various ways, depending on the incantation. The black flames deal fire damage and cause foes to lose a percentage of their HP when hit.
Yes, you read that right! Not fixed damage, a percentage-based damage. That’s what makes these black flame Godslayer Incantations so useful against bosses.
These Godslayer Incantations are used by the Godskin enemies in the game, and all of them can be boosted by Godslayer’s Seal. So, in this guide, I will show you how to get that too.

How to Get Black Flame Godslayer Incantations?
Out of all the Elden Ring incantations, I think black flame Godslayer Incantations are some of the most powerful ones. However, do remember that you need a Sacred Seal to use any of these incantations.
You need high Faith points to use any of the Godslayer Incantations, and since the damage done by the black flames is considered fire damage, you can buff up the incantations with effects like Fire Scorpion Charm or Flame, Grant Me Strength.
Here’s a quick overview of all the black flame Godslayer Incantations.

Black Flame & Black Flame Blade
Black Flame is an Incantation in Elden Ring that lets you conjure up and throw a fireball of black flame. It also does damage over time after hitting a target. You can charge this attack to deal additional damage and explode on impact.
Black Flame Blade incantation temporarily envelops your right-hand weapon in a black flame, increasing damage. This attack can also be charged to deal additional damage.
You can find both of these incantations at the same time. Just collect the Godskin Prayerbook from Stormveil Castle and then give it to Miriel at the Church of Vows or Brother Corhyn at Roundtable Hold. Then, you can study these two incantations.
To find the Godskin Prayerbook go to Stormveil Castle via Rampart Tower site of grace.
Exit the room after activating the Rampart Tower site of grace.
You need to jump down from the edge of the building. But ensure that you land safely on the lower roof, or you will fall and lose your HP or even die.
Once hopped on the lower roof, jump down one more floor. Again, take care while making the jump.
When you land on the ground, look to your left, and you will find a tunnel. Enter the tunnel, and you will find some giant rats inside. I recommend you kill them before moving forward, or else they will keep bothering you.
To open the fog door, you need to use a Stonesword Key, so make sure you have one.
There will be two chests inside the room. In the left chest, you will find Godslayer’s Seal. A powerful seal that provides a 10% boost in effectiveness for all Godslayer incantations, including non-offensive ones.
As per the Finger Seal vs Godslayer’s Seal debate, Godslayer’s Seal is better if you want to deal damage using only Godslayer’s Incantations. The Finger Seal is a good seal overall, but when doing black flames incantations, Godslayer’s Seal is much better.
In the right chest, you will find Godskin’s Prayerbook. You must take this Prayerbook to Brother Corhyn (Roundtable Hold) or Miriel (Church of Vows).
I took my Godskin Prayerbook to Miriel, Pastor of Vows. He is located at the Church of Vows in Liurnia of the Lakes. Start an interaction with him and select the “Give a Prayerbook” option.
Select the “Give the Godskin Prayerbook” option.
After this, you can study incantations from Miriel. You can even study sorcery or ask for information about Radagon.
The Black Flame incantation will cost you 7,500 Runes. It deals fire damage on the initial impact, then applies a black flame effect to enemies that deal 2-5% of their total health over 2 seconds.
Black Flame Blade incantation will cost you 6,000 Runes. It has a very short duration but fairly quick cast time (especially between actions). Therefore, I recommend you use it immediately before attacking or between attacks for a continued combo.
The Black Flame incantation lets you attack powerful enemies from a distance, and if you charge it with Godslayer’s Seal, the final damage is even more. The range for this incantation is really good. Each throw will cost you 25 stamina points.
The Black Flame Blade is not my favorite for its very short duration. However, it does buff up your right-hand weapon and can deal hefty damage to powerful enemies.
Scouring Black Flame
For Scouring Black Flame incantation, you need to go to the Windmill Village in Altus Plateau. This incantation creates fire in a wide area in front of the user. It can be charged for increased range using Godslayer’s Seal.
Take the stairs up or ride on your Torrent (if you still haven’t gotten your trusty steed yet, check out our guide on Elden Ring’s Torrent). The enemies in this area are not hostile, so you can run from them without getting attacked.
At the top of the hill, you will find the area’s boss – Godskin Apostle. It is not that difficult of a fight if you are leveled up enough.
As a reward for defeating the Godskin Apostle, you will get the Scouring Black Flame incantation.
Now, let me warn you beforehand using Scouring Black Flame is a bit of a hassle. It does not have a good enough range, and you need to be at a certain angle to deal damage to your enemy using this incantation. You need to aim the camera downward before casting.
Black Flame Ritual
Black Flame Ritual summons a circle of black flame pillars around the caster. It is really helpful when you are battling a group of enemies. If you charge Black Flame Ritual with the Godslayer’s Seal, the circle will be bigger.
Head to Freezing Lake on the Mountaintops of the Giants.
From Freezing Lake site of grace, head southeast. Ride on your Torrent, as there will be enemies in the way. Just ignore those enemies and keep heading to a fog door.
Use a Stonesword Key to open the fog door.
This is the Spiritcaller Cave. This is a long and dark tunnel, so make sure you have a torch. Or buy it from Merchant Kale.
Just keep heading straight into the cave’s depths, and you will find a broken tree. Hop on that tree and enter the mystic river flowing inside the cave.
You will encounter a few animals. I suggest you just ignore them and keep heading south.
At the end of this cave, you will find some more wolves waiting for you. They will try to attack you but there’s no need to combat with them. Simply ignore them and keep running.
When you find the boss arena, enter it. Be prepared for a two-phase fight.
First, you will be fighting a minor boss called Godskin Apostle. You can make some range attacks and kill him.
The second phase of this fight is with Spiritcaller Snail. This is an easy opponent. A few range attacks can kill it.
After defeating the Godskin Apostle and the Spiritcaller Snail, you will be rewarded with Black Flame Ritual incantation.
Equip the Black Flame Ritual incantation and use it to create a circle of black flames. I believe this is the most powerful Godslayer Incantation in the Elden Ring. The uncharged attack is itself powerful, but if you charge it with Godslayer’s Seal, the circle gets bigger and deals quicker damage.
Black Flame’s Protection
To get this Godslayer Incantation, you have to unlock a secret location called Miquella’s Haligtree. To know how to get there, you can take a look at our guide on Malenia, Blade of Miquella in Elden Ring. You must find two halves of a secret medallion and use it at the Grand Lift of Rold.
Once Miquella’s Haligtree location is unlocked, go to Haligtree Canopy. Here, you will meet an NPC called Sir Gideon Ofnir.
Sir Gideon Ofnir will be sitting at his desk; approach him and initiate a conversation with him. When prompted for dialogue options, choose the “Using the secret medallion” option.
After a brief conversation, he will reward you with the Black Flame’s Protection incantation.
Now, this Godslayer Incantation is not an offensive spell but a defensive one. Black Flame’s Protection increases physical damage negation by 35% and reduces all healing by 20%.
Since this is a body buff, it will last on your body for 70 seconds.
If you are at a point in the story when Sir Gideon is not at his table, you can buy Black Flame’s Protection incantation from Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold. It will cost you 2,500 Runes.
