California-based Insomniac Games, that’s already got two big Marvel titles in the works, is developing another AAA game. Erin Eberhardt, who happens to be the project director on this unannounced game at the studio, revealed this bit of information during a live-streamed interview. Twitter user Dream Walker has posted about it in a Tweet. For those who haven’t kept tabs on the two other games Insomniac is working on should know that these are Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine.
According to Erin, she joined the Insomniac Games team in November 2022. She has prior experience with PlayStation Now’s streaming tech. Plus, she has also worked in Blizzard Entertainment’s eSports Division. But on this new AAA game, Erin is working as the project director.
“This is actually my first Triple-A game project now. I’m the project director on an unannounced project, so I am very excited to be actually making the games now,” Erin said in the interview.
So, What’s the Game Here?
It’s a AAA game, but Erin didn’t give out more details on the project. If we go by the rumors that are floating around, it could be the multiplayer game Insomniac posted job listings for back in June. The studio had posted five openings for the project, namely that of Creative Director, Systems Designer (Multiplayer), Story Lead, Art Director, and VFX Artist. It’s a AAA multiplayer game then, with a possible story arc. Multiplayer looks to be a good move on the part of the US-based developer since it’s already got two single-player games in collaboration with Marvel.
Online multiplayer games are a sure-shot way to get more people to come onboard for gaming sessions. The Insomniac game could be a narrative-driven one (as the studio is looking to hire a Story Lead), which means that we may get a co-op campaign story mode. Could it be something along the lines of Call of Duty that offers both the campaign and online multiplayer modes?
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated for an October 20 release this year. The follow-up to 2018’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Miles Morales, the third-person action-adventure game will feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
Marvel’s Wolverine has not got a release date yet. It’s been eons since we have had a solo Wolverine game, and Insomniac is trying to fill that void. The developers have confirmed that the game will have a mature tone and that they will retain the DNA of the legendary mutant and add a fresh feel to it at the same time. Let’s see how that works out. It’s a Wolverine game, so violence and bloodshed are absolutely guaranteed. Moreover, it seems like there are plenty of upcoming games from Marvel that will keep gamers busy for quite a while!
Our Take
Needless to say (but we’re still going to say), there is plenty of work to get done and expectations to fulfill. The earlier games by Insomniac Games, like Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018), Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020), and the Ratchet & Clank series, have been received well. We wish Insomniac Games speedy development on the upcoming titles it’s making. Hopefully, we will get to hear the announcement of the new AAA game soon.
