We are nearing the launch of the highly-awaited Starfield. The open-world space adventure game launches on September 6, and as far as the hype is concerned, it will certainly be a huge day for Bethesda, who have taken more than 25 years to make Starfield.
The developers held the Starfield Direct event on June 11, where they showcased new gameplay footage and revealed information about various aspects of the game. And now the marketing campaign has begun in real earnest, with the Skyrim and Fallout 4 maker dropping three animated shorts for Starfield.
Animated Shorts Focus on the Starfield Lore
These animated shorts focus on the lore of the space adventure game, which is so essential to the world-building that’s close to the order of Star Wars. After the June 11 event, this is the first time Bethesda has disclosed more details on Starfield.
The three shorts are titled: Where Hope Is Built, The Hand That Feeds, and Supra Et Ultra. Let’s take a closer look at them one by one.
Starfield Short 1: Where Hope Is Built
In the first Short, we see Akila City, the capital of the Freestar Collective, and get a brief glimpse into the attacks the city has to endure from time to time. Here we meet the protagonist Vanna, who was orphaned during the Colony Wars. She wants to take to space in her ship, but the problem is that there is some technical fault, and her ship is not fit for a space journey. What she needs is a repair part that can restore her ship to full health. While exploring the city and looking for a repair part, she ends up rescuing an old man from a gun-toting young man. Little does she know that her ship troubles are going to be solved pretty soon.
Starfield Short 2: The Hand That Feeds
The Hand that Feeds shows us Neon, aka the “pleasure city” of Ocean Planet. Neon is built on a fishing platform and is given a cyberpunk design. The short showcases Ada and Harper, who steal from the wealthy. Ada’s fortunes are going to change, as she is going to be offered an opportunity by Ryujin Industries. But that comes at a cost.
Starfield Short 3: Supra Et Ultra
Supra Et Ultra is Latin for “above and beyond” and shows off New Atlantis, the capital of the United Colonies. The video features the story of a United Colonies courier pilot Kent who wishes more for his life than his current job. He is ambitious and wants to join the UC Vanguard, which looks like a Starfield version of any country’s air force. And he does join it.
Kent’s flying and air combat skills earn him a prominent place in the organization. And his new life, which was meant to take him beyond New Atlantis, has just begun, with more thrilling happenings to follow.
Our Take
An independent adventurer, a small-time thief taken into the folds of a shady organization, and a fighter pilot are the three roles the Starfield shorts depict. There will be plenty more, and that just goes on to show the different ways players can experience the game universe of Starfield. It’s a huge one and foretells the possibility of hundreds of unique gaming experiences. The launch day is not that far away now, and we expect Bethesda to ratchet up its Starfield marketing with more content over the coming weeks.
