Star Wars is such an iconic creative franchise that love for it amongst people has endured for over more than four decades now and does not look likely to wane. The classic good-vs-evil (light-vs-dark or Jedi-vs-Sith, if you prefer) storyline, with elements taken from various world cultures and religions, has always found admirers strong in the ‘fandom-Force’.
Apart from the six mainline films, there have been numerous TV shows (The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, to name a few), video games, and hundreds and hundreds of books, both canon and non-canon (the Expanded Universe or EU). The vast universe of the George Lucas-conceived franchise is deeply rooted in the collective consciousness of science fiction fans the world over.
As you might have anticipated, we, the Sparkian game nerds, are here for the Star Wars video game thingy. That multiple Star Wars games are in development has been known for over a year now. But the latest word is that a new game in EA and Respawn Entertainment’s third-person action-adventure Jedi series could be under development.
New Star Wars Jedi game: Job Listings Reveal a New Adventure
A job listing by Electronic Arts has almost confirmed a new game in the Star Wars Jedi franchise. As can be seen, EA is looking for a ‘Senior VFX Artist’ for ‘Star Wars Jedi’. The ideal requirements for the candidate include more than six years of game audio experience with expert sound design and mixing skills.
In addition to that, EA would also prefer a candidate who is experienced in Wwise and Unreal Engine 4; experience in Unreal Engine 5 would be ‘a big plus.’ This leads us to the inference that the new Star Wars Jedi game would be made using Unreal Engine 5. And it is highly likely because plenty of future AAA games could shift to Unreal Engine 5, which is seen as the new industry standard.
There is another job posting too, which is for Senior Combat Designer for the ‘Star Wars Team’, and strongly hints at Respawn Entertainment working on this particular project. Although the two listings are different, they are most likely to be for the same game.
Star Wars Jedi Series: Would it be a Trilogy Now?
Now, we know that Respawn made two Jedi games, namely, Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Both feature Cal Kestis. And it’s been close to three months since Jedi: Survivor’s release, with the game receiving good critical reception. Stating the obvious, a new game in the series would make it a trilogy, something which one can expect EA to do as Jedi: Survivor is a hit, and they would want to bank on its success. If not a sequel to Jedi: Survivor, it could have a different story with a different set of characters, but the chances for that look slim. Continuing the legacy of the Jedi games would be the smarter choice.
Star Wars Outlaws: The Upcoming Ubisoft Game
French video gaming giant Ubisoft recently dropped the gameplay trailer for Star Wars Outlaws, its upcoming single-player open-world role-playing game. It is the first-ever Star Wars open-world game.
Star Wars Outlaws features an ‘original scoundrel story’, focusing on the adventures of Kay Vess and her super-adorable companion Vix as they try to pull off one of the biggest heists in the Outer Rim. Want to know more about Star Wars Outlaws? We have got you covered.
RPG, Strategy, FPS: More Star Wars Games Coming
Now that Star Wars Oulaws is confirmed, and the trilogy topper for the Jedi series could be announced later, there are still other Star Wars projects in the pipeline. First off, there is Star Wars: Eclipse, the first game in the franchise to be set in the High Republic era. Then, the remake of Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is being made. Respawn Entertainment is also working on a new Star Wars FPS and a Star Wars strategy game.
Our Take
Clearly, there isn’t going to be any shortage of Star Wars video games in the coming future. All seems to be strong in the Force. And considering there is so much to look forward to, we hope you are, too. Follow Sparkian for more exciting content to keep yourself updated with the gaming industry!
